Organized by Tompkins County Immigrant Rights Coalition
While local governments can compel their police not to request the immigration status of residents and suspects, they cannot keep ICE out of our community. Members of our community must develop the capacity to mobilize to protect immigrants from ICE raids, arrests and family separation, and provide solidarity for immigrants’ defense in court proceedings, detention and deportation.
Rapid response networks have formed around the country, and we can learn from their experiences. This workshop will provide a foundation for developing an immigrant hotline and community-wide rapid response team. The training will cover technical and logistical components of the rapid response team, as well as an overview of various roles that are necessary for the team. Lastly, the training will cover best practices and challenges that our trainers have experienced doing this work over the course of ten years.
