THE NEW JIM CROW COMMUNITY BOOK READ MOVES TO ACTION IN APRIL, ADDRESSES REENTRY BARRIERS AT FINAL EVENT
700 Unique Participants Attended Seven Book Read Events Between September 2016 and March 2017

Ithaca, NY -- Taking Action to End the New Jim Crow is eighth and final event of The New Jim Crow Community Book Read. The event will launch a series of action aimed at addressing barriers to reentry for jail and prison, pushing progressive criminal justice reform policies, and continued community education about mass incarceration.
The September 19th, 2017 Kick Off Event Drew 400 community members and since then, over 700 unique participants joined a total of seven monthly events hosted by groups including the Ultimate ReEntry Opportunity Initiative (URO), Black Lives Matter Ithaca, and Civic Ensemble, and many others.
The community read distributed 1,800 copies of The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness, with 200 copies in circulation at the Tompkins County Public Library. Additionally, Participants organized over 35 book groups for friends, neighbors, and organizations.
